WSJ: Apple and Samsung are winning with different strategies

April 24, 2012

Apple, the world’s most valuable company, sells just one phone, the iPhone. The Cupertino, Calif., company emphasizes design and profitability over sales. It also invests heavily in its consumer brand and its tightly controlled retail stores, and it benefits from a strong ecosystem of software and apps.

Meanwhile, Samsung, the world’s largest tech company by revenue last year, goes for scale. The South Korean company is a fast-follower that places its bets broadly, creating multiple versions of myriad products such as its Galaxy smartphones to suit partners’ needs. It maximizes profits by controlling its own manufacturing

Ford Paris: The Parisian Pinball Park Challenge

April 23, 2012

Rumour has it that Parisian drivers really don’t care about the cars around them and they’ll drive or park where ever and how ever they like… And sometimes… Sorry, most times, that means if they need to squeeze into a car space, they will, anyway they can, complete with bumps, scratches and dints on every corner of the car. They don’t care. Crazy right?!

So Ford Europe, through our friends at Ogilvy Paris, created the Parisian Pinball Park Challenge. A digital installation that was created around a free parking space in Paris, the catch was, the space was small and the cars either side of the parking space were rigged up to the overhead pinball score board… The worse the driver, the more points they scored, with the winner being presented a brand new car complete with active park assist which conveniently parks the car perfectly!

The State of Data Protection [INFOGRAPHIC]

April 19, 2012

In the age of big data, businesses are creating, processing, storing, and sharing information at an alarming rate. A significant amount of the data is highly sensitive or confidential and should be properly safeguarded. It’s unnerving to think about the possibility of our own personal information sitting on servers, possibly unencrypted and open to everyone.

We hope that companies are complying with SOX, HIPAA, PCI, and other regulations but, as we know, hope is not a strategy – so we decided to take a hard look at the current state of data protection.

In March of 2012 we surveyed over 200 individuals in the IT community, asking about their current data protection practices and confidence levels, and how data protection practices correlate with data protection activities.

The results may surprise you. While over 80% reported that they store data belonging to customers, vendors, and other business partners, only 26% reported being very confident that data stored within their organization is protected.
